Bang Bang Lulu - Southern Ska - Northern Soul

Bang Bang Lulu formed in 2005 from ex-members of various International and South Coast based acts, which include the mighty 2 Tonic, underground mod legends The Hideways, Urban Rhythm, Maroon Town and chart toppers The Shamen.

The Mission

We love Northern Soul, Ska, and all those classic tunes from the Scootering scene past and present. So our set always contains a selection of songs familar to anyone that ever sat astride a Vespa or a Lambretta, wore Sta Prest trousers and a Fred Perry or popped a handful of Bennies and wore their shoes out at an all nighter. We do what we do because it's who we are and its what we like. We keep it simple and sincere, we keep it uptempo, and we keep it loud and proud.

What'd i say?

Bang Bang Lulu present a cocktail of rude boy ska, retro soul and a general acknowledgement to their own musical heritage. This includes an ever growing collection of original songs, which, whilst showing their obvious mod/ska influences, also demonstrates an inclination for retro-futurism, urbane style and occasional comic insanity. As a live band, the focus is on entertaining and having a ball. Big bold brass, screamin Hammond and one of the tightest, skankin riddum sections this side of a Kingston dancehall. All of this backs up the vocal talents of the enigmatic Captain Skalet and the warm soul voice of Miss D.

So, wanna good time? wiggle your buttcheeks off the couch and come see this bunch of reprobates and you'll never wanna listen to Coldplay ever again.
